Holy Crap
I had a little dread in me before going to work today because I knew I had a 10 o'clock meeting, two twelve o'clock meetings and a one o'clock interview (3 1/2 hours' worth of individual half hour meetings) on my schedule. Actually, all that wasn't so bad except because two of the meetings were at noon and I could obviously only attend one, I had to prepare a report for the meeting I was not attending that was being provided to all the partners who are the leaders of their practice management groups, as well as the managing partner, executive director, marketing director and controller -- and I wasn't even gonna be there to 'splain myself! The executive director presented it for me, though, so I'm sure it was fine. But the hours leading up to that were stressful -- I got to work at 9, skipped my 10 o'clock meeting and spent almost the entire 3 hours before the noon meeting gathering the information for the report I was sending to the meeting I wasn't attending. Get all that?
It all worked out, though.
So I got through the day and the person who interviewed today was, refreshingly, someone I thought they should hire. Immediately. I took her to her first meeting and told one of my co-workers that they have to hire her just because my own internal warning system didn't go off when I met her. And I am rarely wrong on my first impressions of people. Very rarely. I always wished I could be involved in making an organization's hiring decisions because I could smell a disaster a mile away. Not that they always do what I wish they would, but they do listen. Anyway, this person should totally get an offer and they seem to be leaning toward that. That would make my week! My month. Maybe my year so far. Seriously.
Anyway.
The day flew by -- like it was 9, then it was noon, then it was 5. Just like that. Not that I didn't look at the clock in between, because on interview days my work gets interrupted every 30 minutes, but I was just so into what I was doing that I didn't really notice.
And that, my friends, is why I love my job. I only have 4 work days to get ready for the 8 Summer Associates who are coming on board next Monday, and I have so much to do before then! I've gotta get the rest of their welcome gifts and get them put together, I've gotta get a head count for a golf tournament I'm organizing and take care of other details for that event, I've gotta nail down some details and make flyers for other events, and I've gotta get ready to shepherd all these people around the office for a few days. Oh, man . . . it's gonna get hectic!
I'm trying to read some stuff I brought home from work now -- but I'm also trying to catch up on some Tivo because I feel like I should be able to do that.
I also made the best pasta dish last night. Well, second best as my first favorite is a spicy mostaccioli dish with pancetta and a ton of fresh grated parmigiano-reggiano and pecorino romano. But still. It's a spicy pasta with chicken, fresh basil, heavy cream and tomato sauce that you cook on the stove then combine with fresh parmesan cheese and put into a dish then bake for half an hour. Wow. It's good. And, it could feed a village. Seriously, I'm going to be eating that stuff for lunch for days. In fact, tomorrow night I think we're gonna have it again. It's a good thing pasta gets better after a day or so. At least, we think so.
So I guess that's all I have to report for today. Busy busy busy at work, two nights over the weekend of good cookin', and trying to get my head straight to face the rest of the week. Oh, and we rented Hitch yesterday. It was just okay. I thought it would be funnier. But, it had its moments. We still haven't gone to see United 93. Not sure if I want to see it on the big screen. Might have to wait until we can get it for our own little big screen.
Oh, and I got an e-mail the other day talking about the 2006 Hallmark ornaments. Who's ready for Christmas? Not me!

They should make a TV show about that - someone who can smell disaster
I love pasta that you mix together and then bake.
Oh, and sounds like work is good. I'm happy things are going well. How is the husband doing with his problems?
Wow, what a busy day!!! That pasta dish sounds good. Yeah, I didn't care for Hitch all that much.
Ian: Starring me! I could use the money.
Peachy: It really was so good! Work is great -- a little stressful right now, but it'll pass. The husband is miserable with allergies, and his knee is still giving him trouble, and now his wrist. 30 years old and he's falling apart! I don't know what to do for him.
Pixie: I'm exhausted. It was. Good thing we rented it!
