Lunch

I had the best lunch today! I had lunch with the rest of the management team at work at a restaurant called Dragonfly. I'd been there once before, and liked it. This time I had something a little different: grilled salmon teriyaki, jasmine rice, mixed greens with miso salad dressing, gyoza and fruit. There was also a little edamame in there. The salmon was perfectly grilled, fork-tender and the sauce was excellent. The rice had the perfect amount of stick to it, making it easy to eat with chopsticks. The mixed greens were super-fresh and the miso salad dressing very tasty. The gyoza was fabulous. It was all good! I cleaned my plate -- except for the fruit. I didn't want the taste of oranges overshadowing the rest of my lunch! Oh, I forgot we also had a couple of appetizers: onion bread and veggie spring rolls. The onion bread was interesting -- it was grilled and served with a sauce. Not bad. The veggie spring rolls were tasty, but too big for me -- big bites of cold veggies don't do it for me, but overall it was alright.

After lunch, some of us had dessert. I tried a flourless chocolate cake. I had no idea what the result would be in making a cake without flour, and I still can't adequately describe it, but I can tell you it was GOOD. It was a little three-inch round chocolate confection served with chocolate ganache and sweet fresh whipped cream. Really good! I'd totally have that again.

The best part about it (and my favorite thing about eating oriental food) is that I didn't feel stuffed afterward. I could never have had dessert in a Mexican, Italian, or American restaurant after having had appetizers and an entree!

They are big on plating there, too. Everything there is presented rather artfully. If you happen to stop in on California's capitol city, I highly recommend checking out Dragonfly!

Your lunch sounded so good. I have heard of flowerless cake, but that one sounded like it had a lot of chocolate on it, and I'm not that big of a fan.

Hope today's lunch is comparable. :)
