Fish out of water
The husband and I went to his grandfather's house for their annual Christmas gathering. It's always very surreal. I still don't know half these people and I don't think they're all really even related. The husband didn't even want to go. They always say he has the "family flu." Some of them are normal, but most of them, not so much. All year long we hear about the drama going on with each of them, then they all get together for every conceivable occasion and pretend like none of that has happened. I guess that's typical. But my family is pretty small. I'm not used to these things where there are 50 people and kids running amok (and none of the parents paying attention to their kids running around with sharp objects and trying to kill each other).
Anyway. We survived a whole hour and a half of it and were on our way.
Before that, we slept in some, then went out for lunch at El Torito (which totally hit the spot). I was gonna try and hit the mall, but it's madness out there. We decided to go to Cost Plus World Market instead where I bought some truffles to go along with some gifts we were taking to the husband's family thing, then over to Best Buy so I could get a new CD case to replace the one that got waterlogged yesterday. I found one that holds a few more CDs and, incidentally, is made my Body Glove. Maybe if this thing gets hit by water it'll resist it. I also bought the Foo Fighters' "In Your Honor," which has 2 discs -- one labeled "loud" and the other labeled "not so loud." I'm on a CD binge lately. Can't get enough of 'em. That James Blunt one is on HEAVY rotation! I've also listened to both CDs in Dane Cook's "Retaliation," and I loaned the "Harmful if Swallowed" set to my friend Skindy but when I get it back I'll listen to the CD that came with that DVD. She's already started listening to it and it sounds like it's got some stuff on it that wasn't in the DVD because I don't remember any references to the "slip n' bleed." So, it's on my list. Today I also ran across some "best of" or "greatest hits" compilations by Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube. I might have to pick those up. I'm all over the map, I know. I also saw a Beastie Boys anthology, and a couple of Aerosmith compilations I hadn't seen before. And I just remembered I wanted to check out Jason Mraz. I don't have enough money to feed my CD addiction! A little at a time. I can buy one a week, can't I?
So now I'm contemplating going to the mall. It's dark as midnight out, but it's not even 7:00 yet and I'm kind of hoping all the people with younger kids have either been and gone or have to be home to feed those kids. Is that just wishful thinking? Well, I can deal with the crowds, I think, as long as I can find a decent parking space.
Wish me luck!
