Yawn
Morning again. At least last night I got 7.5 hours of sleep. I'm so bad about going to bed at a decent hour! Last night I decided not to fight it. Feel a little better than yesterday.
We finished decorating the Christmas tree last night. Man, I have a buttload of ornaments! There are probably a few I could still get rid of, some of the stragglers I hold on to because they were given to me (even if they are hideous) or because there's nothing really wrong with them, but maybe they don't quite "go" at this point. It's definitely time to slow down on collecting the Hallmark ornaments. Well, that or get a taller tree! The scale is starting to tip for me from "wow, look at all those ornaments," to "wow, how much have I spent on all those ornaments?"
I have to go find another vacuum cleaner -- I had bought one to replace the one I got 10 years ago (definitely got my money's worth on that one), but it kind of sucked. And that was the problem. I need one that really sucks! It seemed only to pick up light surface stuff, and you couldn't even tell I'd vacuumed when I was done. If it can't even fluff up the carpet, what good is it? So, I took it back but haven't picked up another yet 1) because of the expense and 2) because I need to research a few models before making a decision so I'm not returning another vacuum. Obviously I've got to make a decision quickly -- can't go too long without vacuuming around here!
Yesterday was a good day at work, though with the rain it took me a long time to get there. There are too many damned people in this city now! Once I was there, though, time flew by and I got a lot done. I've got to find some time to work on that newsletter today! I felt a little better when I scanned it last night and realized I had more than I thought I did, but the amount of time I spend on it has definitely gone down since starting in the new position.
As for home, it's just nice to have the house back to ourselves. Peace and quiet! My husband's not the quiet type, but I've finally realized that he and his siblings come by their loud dispositions honestly. The FIL is similarly loud, though admittedly not as hyper as the husband. However, the FIL seems to have one setting, which is "chatter." Again, nice guy -- but I'd go nuts if I had to listen to that every day!
Man, it's already 10 to 7. I should be showering, getting dressed, and getting on the road ASAP -- but they're showing traffic on the TV, which is FUBAR'd, and I wonder if there's really any point!
Okay, eww. I just saw a news story showing some guy running onto Lincoln Financial Field (the Philadelphia Eagles' stadium) and spreading his mother's ashes before being taken away by security. He spread her ashes on the field. Look, I'm all for doing what I can to make someone's dying wish come true, but -- ick. I'd have been pissed if I was one of the players having to stomp around on that! What an inexcusable fucking display. He's being charged with "defiant trespassing." I think he should be charged with improper disposal of human remains and being fucking disgusting. IMHO.
Speaking of inexcusable, I just read the latest corrupt politician story -- some formerly honorable military man, 63-year old California Congressman, who pleaded guilty to accepting $2.4 million in bribes for awarding government contracts to defense contractors. He was a member of a House subcommittee that controls defense dollars. An eight-term Congressman! He accepted all kinds of things in exchange for performance of his official duties in favor of certain contractors -- cash, antiques, use of a yacht, vacations, money for his daughter's graduation party -- is there no limit to the corruption? How much money has been wasted because the people in charge of it have fucked us over for their own gain? This guy was practically holding the fucking purse strings! I know I can't even begin to scratch the surface of this issue with a lowly little paragraph, but I swear this happens so often now people are immune to it. They roll their eyes and wonder "what else is new?" These fucks are the same people who see fit to rail against the masses for society's ills and pledge to correct them . . . but, uh, what? And apparently the only reason he got caught was because he sold his house to a defense contractor for substantially more than it was worth, and the contractor later sold it at a huge loss. But the contractor's revenues goddamned tripled during that time as well. Hmm. These people have no consciences, no scruples whatsoever. This is not a victimless crime! For every son of a bitch who is getting rich off gross government overspending, there is something else, somewhere, getting cut.
Like, for instance, funding for dealing with the overcrowded freeways that I'm about to have to jump on . . .

And good morning! Your post started off so innocent and nice and by the end you were so pissed off. HA!!HA!! I hope the drive in wasn't too bad for you.
I knew a person that had a chatter setting. What a nightmare.
I'm all caught up now and I hope the husband's back is better. I had dealing with insurance screws. You have lived through the holiday!
Did your eye twitch stop? Mine was doing the same thing the day you posted that!
I think it's too much computer/reading. that does it to me.
Peachy: Yeah, my next post is kinda the same way . . .
Valerie: The husband is doing better, but still sore. My eye twitch is also better, but still around.
Hey :-)
If you don't mind dropping a little cash, you definitely can't go wrong with a Kirby. I've had mine for 14 years and it sucks now as much as the day I got it. I mean sucks in a good way, of course ;-)
Oh, I was talking about a vacuum.. but you prolly figured that?
