I didn't set foot in one store today. Nope, we left my dad's house this afternoon and avoided traffic by taking a lesser-traveled path. I had to fight some serious drowsiness about halfway through the drive (important, since I was the one driving), but I made it through and felt fine by the time we got close to home. We went through the 'ol Taco Bell drive-through and went home. We ate, did some post-father-in-law-vist clean-up, and then splintered off to do our own thing -- within the house, anyway. The husband played PS2, the stepdaughter played with her iPod Nano, and I caught up on some Tivo while sorting through some mail, ads, papers, etc. I was gonna go get a new shower curtain and rod for the new tub, but got caught up fussing with the stepdaughter's Nano. She was having trouble moving songs from the computer to the Nano, so I tried to help her, but it wouldn't cooperate. In the mean time, I realized that the father-in-law (though he was, as he said, very careful to create a small, mostly non-objectionable playlist for the stepdaughter) had downloaded pretty much every music file he had on his computer onto the iPod software under other music libraries. So there were about 850 music files with categories of "hard core rap," "gangsta rap," and the like. I can't tell you how many songs had the word "fuck" in their titles! The goddamned 2 Live Crew were among the "artists," along with Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kid Rock -- you name it. The one Prince song on there was "Pussy Control." Are you fucking kidding me? Question No. 1: What the hell is this music doing on the FIL's computer?! Question No. 2: How does one have musical selections ranging from 50 Cent to John Denver to Metallica to Steely Dan?! Question No. 3: How does someone who is a NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR by trade fail to notice what he has done? This in addition to the fact that over the course of 2 weeks he downloaded all kinds of shit onto our PC, saved a bunch of useless icons to various desktops, sent e-mail from the husband's account -- WTF? During the first week he was here, the computer took a massive dump and wouldn't even go on line. He got on and ran it in safe mode and ran some adware scanning stuff and got it going again, but these problems didn't crop up until after he showed up and was here by himself on the computer all day every day while we were at work. So I don't know what to think about that, but I really don't think any of us caused that meltdown in the first place. Still, he walked out of here thinking he came to the rescue. Mmm hmm. I can't wait to let him know I deleted over SIX HUNDRED music files from the EIGHT HUNDRED FIFTY music files he download to this machine. Not that they don't take up an assload of memory or anything . . .
He's a nice guy, but I can't vouch for his computer expertise. He probably does know more techy stuff than I do, but all I know is my computer seems to be a little fucked up right now. Now I gotta ramp up and learn what I need to know to right it! I'll just add it to my list of things to do.
So my point in saying all that is by the time I got done deleting all that unbelievably inappropriate music (for an 11 year old, for sure), I felt even less like going out than I did before that. So, no shopping for me today. Just as well.
Tomorrow I'm meeting my friend Denise for lunch. She's always a hoot. Last time we had lunch she told me she's moving to Louisiana in 2 years, so I gotta stock up on my Denise fix in the interim.
Wow, I blogged 2 days in a row. I'm officially on a roll!
