Wow, it's been over 2 weeks!

It seems like some people write on this thing every few minutes of every day. I'm already slipping! What have I been up to? Well, a lot, actually. I'm still working on the "clear the clutter" portion of my resolution, and made my way through my hope chest -- didn't get rid of much, but got rid of enough to make some room for Jason's and my wedding cards, Christmas cards, and a few other things that were looking for a home. And it seems a little more organized. I'd say about 3/4 of the contents are still greeting cards I've been collecting since I was a kid (elementary school!), but most of it is still stuff I want to hold on to. I didn't look at every last thing, so there are probably a few more things that could be pulled out, but it's good enough for now. Have to embrace that "good enough" concept! I'm trying again to tame the paper tiger that is Jason's and my personal papers and also keep all our tax stuff together so that once it all arrives we can make our appointment and get that out of the way.

What else, what else . . . oh! I've made Valentine's Day dinner reservations for us at the Zinfandel Grille, the hotel restaurant where we were married last year, and also made reservations for us at a Bed & Breakfast in Napa called the Candlelight Inn the following weekend (our first wedding anniversary). It's kind of expensive for a 2-night stay, but includes breakfasts, dinners, champagne & chocolates, wine tasting passes, passes to a food & wine museum (COPIA) and, of course, the room. And I think maybe even some afternoon hors d'oeuvres & wine. So it's not a bad deal. We shouldn't have to spend much on anything other than gas in the car. I'm looking forward to it! Unfortunately, Jason got a jury duty notice the day after I made the reservations, so we are trying to get him out of that. Shortly we will be unable to cancel without paying a hefty fee (like half the stay!). I'm planning on us going either way, so if he can't get out of it, he will have to postpone it. But I'm pulling for him being excused because we cannot afford for him to not get paid! Please please PLEASE let that work out.

I'm also getting back to a more balanced diet, trying to eat more salads, fruit, smaller portions, more water, blah, blah, blah. At some point I'm gonna have to get back to the gym -- no avoiding that.

I've also pored over a few Sacramento Business Journal magazines (Heavy Hitters in Real Estate, Book of Lists, and one on business generally -- up & comers, etc.) to get some ideas re: potential future employers, get ideas re: businesses, just trying to get myself more informed. I'm also continuing to work my way through 101 Best Home-Based Businesses for Women. If I could just find a way to do freelance writing at home, I'd be in heaven! I'm more than halfway through the book, but still have a ways to go since it is well over 400 pages. I think I'm on page 273 or somewhere around there. It's a pretty fast read, and I'm getting lots of good ideas. I'm trying to get through it just so I can go back and read all my notes and look up all the web sites I marked! I have a lot of surfing to do.

Earlier this week (Tuesday) my dad was in town on business and Jason and I met him at the Hard Rock Cafe for drinks & appetizers (dinner). It was great. Love the impromptu get-togethers; great way to keep up with what's going on with everyone!

So back to business. Trying to find ways to cram some fun into our lives; decided that vacations can't be left for when we have a lot of money laying around (never), so just started planning things knowing we'd have to come up with the money and pay as we go. Probably easier that way anyway. So, I need to call AAA and talk to a travel agent about planning a trip to Hawaii in October -- far enough to plan & pay ahead, close enough to get excited about, and we finally get to use that travel certificate my father & stepmother gave us as a wedding gift almost a year ago! We never got to use the one Tony gave us and I have a feeling it's expired or close to it so we may have to pay to extend it but I'd like us to go to Cancun also. Gotta get on that!

So as for work, well, I gotta come back to that 'cuz it's lunch time! More later. Sooner than later, I hope.
