Out with the old, in with the new

I've run out of time. I didn't accomplish much today, other than going out for a lunch-time breakfast with the husband, taking a shower, actually blow-drying and doing my hair and maybe a little laundry.

I did go buy some champagne and a few odds and ends needed to make this artichoke dip (dang it, Peachy, I DO always write about food!) because my friend asked me to bring the recipe so I'm bringing the recipe and all the ingredients -- as well as another recipe, for cream cheese & chocolate chip filled cupcakes and all those ingredients. So I've got some goodies to offer when we get to her place not long from now.

Other than that, I guess everything will have to wait until next year!

So a quick review of last year:

January: We rung it in with the same people last year as we are tonight -- should be a nice, low-key evening. I don't remember much else about January, so I guess not much happened.

February: The husband's and my first wedding anniversary. We spent it in Napa, taking our first turn at a bed & breakfast. It was a great place! The Eagles also went to the Superbowl, but of course they didn't win so the husband was bummed about that.

March: Uhhh . . . I got nuttin'.

April: My grandmother passed away at the age of 87. Her health was always frail, so it wasn't a surprise but I do miss her. She was so sharp and witty and very sweet. This marked the passing of my last surviving grandparent. The good news in April was my first review at work, and gave me the opportunity to get paid for writing occasionally in the form of a company newsletter. It's been a great success and I get to do whatever I want with it so it's been a blast.

May: Again, I don't recall. Must not have been a banner month.

June: Our first trip to Cancun! It was beautiful, but very humid and rather hot. As it turns out, we were visiting at the beginning of hurricane season and it looks like we happened to be there between storms. Lucky us -- a few weeks after we left, all hell broke loose.

July: Lots of friends and fun over the 4th of July weekend. It was also the last time I saw my friend Jeff in person. I will always remember that night and be thankful for the fact that we had it.

August: Jeff passed away in a very unlikely accident and shocked the hell out of everyone who knew and loved him -- and that was a lot of people. I would say well over 500 people attended his service, and we still can't believe he's gone. We miss him so much.

September: Our first trip to Newport Beach. BEAUTIFUL. Man, would I love to live there! Perfect weather, great restaurants, lots to do -- and lots of ways to relax. Made it out to Catalina Island, and visited some friends who live in Corona. I could definitely do that place again.

October: The big promotion. I almost didn't find out about it in time because I was on vacation when the opening was announced. But, thanks to Marriott Newport Coast Villas' wi-fi, I was able to check my e-mail on my iPaq and when I got back, I tossed my hat into the ring and swooped in to take the position away from people who had been interviewing for it in my absence. And here I thought I only had bad luck! Big, BIG change. A real good one, too!

November: Jason's accident, getting rear-ended on the freeway. Kinda cast a cloud on our holidays, but hopefully next month we can get reimbursed for some of the financial hits we took as a result. Also spent Thanksgiving at my father's house, which was nice -- but unfortunately I got my first cold of the year so I didn't enjoy it as much as I might have otherwise. Started Christmas shopping in earnest.

December: My birthday month. Unfortunately, my birthday sucked big-time as the husband continued to suffer the repercussions of his traffic accident. Spent most of the day dealing with doctors. I think I need to go shopping and buy myself something pretty to make up for that suck-fest now that the husband is okay. We also had Christmas, which was a blast -- family, friends & food were all present and accounted for, and we really did have a good time. Ya gotta love the drama-free holidays!

So that's it in a nutshell -- some major low points, but also some major high points. More than usual. I've been stalled, work-wise, for so long that I'm still kind of stunned that it happened. I've got a lot of work ahead of me, though -- no more cruising on auto-pilot.

Tomorrow I will have to hammer out some honest-to-goodness resolutions. Ones that I WILL keep. I don't think I've ever really written any down -- though when I started this blog almost a year ago (it's almost my blogiversary!), I did pound out a laundry list of things I wanted to do. I'll have to go back and link to it to see how I did. I know I didn't do it all, but I did do some. I feel pretty good about it. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I've cleared the way to really do some things I want to do. And dammit, I'm gonna do it!

Cheers to anyone who stops by and actually reads this post. Happy New Year -- here's to a fabulous 2006!

I love artichoke dip. :)
I think you had a great summary. March's entry made me laugh.
I'm still sad about Jeff too. I think your posts about him were the most touching.
