5 Questions . . . by Grrrace!

I volunteered myself for a few questions from Grrrace. This is what she wanted to know:

1. how long have you lived in sac-town? heh. I have lived in the Sacramento area since I was about 2 years old. My dad was in the air force (just the 2 or 4-year stint; I didn't live the military brat life) so I was born on a base in Florida, then we were in Puerto Rico for a while when I was about a year old then out to Kal-ee-FOR-nya, as Ahhnold would say. According to my dad, we were supposed to go back to Boston, where my parents are from, but they decided they liked California enough that they stayed -- much to the chagrin of the rest of the family. Man, I could have a wicked east coast accent if things had gone the other way!

2. why did you decide to start blogging? Before I started, I kept telling myself I need to write more. More of what? I'm not really sure. I just know I needed an outlet for whatever I was thinking or whatever interested me at any given point in time. I tried journaling here and there and would never keep the journal up. I get tired writing everything by hand. The idea of blogging seemed like a lot more fun 1) because I type about 90 WPM, 2) because I can do it anywhere without carrying around a journal, 3) because I can add pictures and links, and 4) because I get lots of great feedback about my wretching and kvetching -- that was a totally unexpected bonus. I had no idea how big blogging was before I got started. I was way behind the curve! Even more fun is reading what everyone else puts out there!

3. what's your favorite fruit? Watermelon. Or strawberries. Ooh! Pineapple! Sometimes kiwi. And black plums. Strangely, I am not a fan of apples, oranges, or (blech) bananas.

4. for the love of god, what is your first name???? hehe. I guess I don't ever put it out there, do I? Maybe I should keep it a mystery, like Kramer did on Seinfeld. Unfortunately, I thought the revelation of his name was rather anti-climactic. So maybe I don't want to build up all that suspense. It's Maureen. A solid Irish name, my friend!

5. what's the proudest moment in your life? It's times like this I wish I'd already had a kid so I could just say that! Uhhhh, lemme think . . . you know, probably when I graduated from college, because it seemed like it took forever and for the last 2 years of it I was working and going to school full time, taking classes during my lunch hour and after work to get it all done. And I lived alone, paid my own rent and other bills, AND I still managed to go out every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night -- at a minimum! Can't do THAT anymore. Sounds like it's time to work on more proud moments. Mini proud moments come when I find gifts for people that I know they are going to love -- not necessarily because they are expensive or exotic, but because they are just the thing. I like the reactions I get when I get it right. I was pretty proud when I put out my first newsletter at work a couple months ago and received overwhelmingly positive feedback on it! It's nice to do something that means something to someone other than (or, in this case, in addition to) me. Oh! One more -- I'm not sure it was so much a proud moment as a "wow" moment . . . when my dad gave his speech at my wedding. He was practically beside himself, and he's not a very outwardly emotional person. For him to stand up in front of all of my friends and our family and say what he said -- I realized the depth of his love for me. Yay me, I am a good daughter!

Okay, okay, I know it said "moment," singular, but I couldn't decide. But if you're reading blogs, you don't have anything better to do -- so don't get on me about my response being too long!

You look like a Maureen.
Good answers. The gift giving thing is so nice. I try to find something people would really enjoy and then I end up giving them nothing or something boring.
