It's Wednesday?
I should know this . . . I was here for Monday and Tuesday . . . but it hardly seems possible that it's already Wednesday. Yet another sign of how busy I've been! An unfortunate side effect of that is I don't always get to sleep when I should or even when I want to! I went to be last night around 11:30, but didn't fall asleep until at least 1:00. I'm hurtin'.
I'm still on my organizing/sprucing kick. Last night we went to Lowe's and bought a 5-tiered shelf for the garage that we put all the laundry baskets and laundry detergent, etc., on. There was also room for cat litter, my Goodwill bag, and a big stereo that used to be in our spare room and is now out in the garage to keep us company when we do things like wash cars, etc. It's pretty cool. The husband went through his stuff in the garage on Monday and did a good job of straightening it up. It's purty. Our pile of stuff to go to the dump is growing. I called the city to schedule a pickup only to be told that they are not scheduling pickups until after JULY 10TH because, they say, they are trying to clean up all the streets for the 4th of July holiday. Well, pickups are supposed to be done w/in 2 days of the call, and I called on JUNE 12TH so I don't know why they couldn't handle that. It's annoying because this year the city switched to a program where, instead of having a big trash pickup twice a year for everyone, everyone now has to call, individually, to schedule these things. It ain't working so well. Someone I know who lives around the block tried to schedule one of these some time ago and was told it would be 2 WEEKS, instead of 2 DAYS, before they could get out there. Then they didn't even show up in 2 weeks. Losers! So, we may be just loading all our crap in the truck and taking it to the dump ourselves. It only costs $15, but it's a bigger pain in the ass than taking it to the curb and having it picked up -- particularly considering we already pay for that service as part of our bill every month! Gah! Anyway, we'll get rid of it one way or another.
I also made more headway in organizing the spare room. I bought a shelf, originally for the stereo that is now in the garage, but once we mounted it it became clear it was not big enough for the stereo and should really only hold 20 pounds. I don't know how much the stereo weighs but it's definitely pushing at least 20 pounds. So I rescued a nice alarm clock radio that I had put in the garage for the same reason the big stereo is now out there) and put it on the shelf instead. That actually worked out because now there's a clock and radio in the guest room and it fits on the shelf quite nicely, being that it's a cube instead of a big 3-piece shelf system. The spare room looks nice now. I'll have to go in there and read some more. Very peaceful!
Over the weekend, since our A/C crapped out, we bought a new storm/screen door for the front door on our house so we can get a breeze from that direction. Before that, we only had one window facing that direction, and it's on the other side of the hallway and doesn't give much heat relief. I've always wanted some kind of screen door for the front, a nice one, and we just never did it. Funny how the thought of roasting for a week or two pending installation of a new HVAC system will cause you to move your ass. So, we bought this nice heavy glass door with a retractable screen and put it together ourselves (the husband is very handy that way, and I helped keep him from doing things like putting things on backwards because he wanted to skip steps on the instructions). It took about 2.5 hours and we didn't even get cranky at each other. Not bad, if I do say so myself. The bummer was Lowe's was only charging $59 to install those when we bought it (which was a huge discount), but we wanted it installed that day so we went ahead and did it ourselves. I like the fact that I can have the front door open, pull down the glass in the top half and have a screen to get some air. And it locks! Of course, if someone really wanted to get though the door -- even locked -- they could, but we'd hear them doing it (we don't leave it open at night when we're asleep, of course).
At work, I've been on the same organizational kick and I feel like I'm getting somewhere. Quite a change from a few weeks ago when I felt practically paralyzed by how much I have to do. Lots of progress going on. Of course, it never seems to be enough but I'm doing what I can do. I'm riding the wave of motivation right now!
Oh, and in the back of my mind, our next project is replacing our BBQ. We've had this one 5 years, and it probably should have lasted twice that long, but we didn't take good care of it. Still, I also learned what I do and don't want in a BBQ so I'm looking to replace it. Hopefully we'll get that done soon. We're spending a lot of money right now, but I've held of on doing a lot of things for that very reason -- and was feeling stagnant. So, onward and upward!
Anyhoo, I guess I'd better get my butt in gear and get this house dusted and vacuumed. I really wanna get that stuff done so I can do bigger and better things when I get home. Looking forward to another productive day. Probably boring to read about, but my house and my office are looking good!

I know the wonderful feeling of having a guest room all clean, quiet and comfy. I used the one in our last home as my 'sewing' room. It was so peaceful in there!
Wow you have been super productive. You are making me feel like a bum:)
Meritt: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Pixie: I'm on a roll. Don't feel like a bum -- we all have our moments!
