Holdin' on

It's friggin' hot. Today is not as hot as yesterday. It was so hot yesterday, the house didn't cool down until around midnight. Just a week and a day to go before the A/C dudes come in and rescue us. Thankfully, there is a breeze outside right now and even though it's 88 degrees in the house right now, yesterday it got into the 90s in here. I'm still sweatin', but not as badly.

This morning the stepdaughter and I gave the husband a Belgian waffle maker for father's day. He loves waffles and has been wanting me to get one of those for eons. Last night the stepdaughter and I went out and got strawberries and whipped cream for the waffles, and this morning we had a late breakfast of Belgian waffles. They had the strawberries and whipped cream -- I stuck with butter and syrup. They came out really well! Very easy to make, and this one makes 4 big waffles at a time. Only takes 5 minutes to cook, too. No muss, no fuss. I'd say it was a hit.

We hung around the house a bit after that (before it got really warm) and this afternoon decided to go bowling. We haven't done that in forever! I still have my own ball and shoes from my one season that I played in a league. My average back then was 130. Today I bowled a 142, a 112, and a 128. Not too bad for being so rusty! I beat the husband in the first game but in his final game he bowled a 199 and he was using a house ball. The stepdaughter was being a bit of a sourpuss because she couldn't figure out how to get the ball down the lane w/o hitting the gutter, but we worked w/her on it and in our third game she managed to hit pins in every frame but the first.

I think we're going to have to go find balls and shoes for those two, and new shoes for me, and do that more often. That's a great thing we can all do together -- and the alley we went to is just around the corner. Before we left, we hit the arcade and played a few rounds of air hockey. I skunked the stepdaughter and the husband, one after the other, then they played each other. It was a blast.

We came back home and the house was hot, but not unbearable. I'm trying to get the house aired out now so we can sleep tonight. Tomorrow morning I need to drop the Pathfinder off and have them fix my gearshift, which will not shift out of park w/o my using the shift release in the panel, which is a pain in the ass. I've been living with that for a few weeks and I'm done. Sucks, though -- I know it's gonna cost me a couple hundred dollars by the time they're done. Oh, well. After the hit we took to replace our A/C system, what's a few hundred more dollars?

Anyway, that's about it for now. I might try to do some reading or something. I brought some work home with me but it's too effing hot to really concentrate at this point so I'll have to do it while I'm in the air-conditioned confines of my office. At least I have that. The husband works outside for a living so he gets no break unless he goes someplace that actually has air.

I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL OUR NEW AIR CONDITIONER IS INSTALLED!

Ciao for now.

Pixie: Me too -- it's already warm in here and it's not even 6:30! It's gonna be a rough week. Bowling was a blast.
