Aint' nothin' goin' on

I had a short day at work today so we could go see the tax man. Hopefully soon we're getting a call to go sign our returns and soon after that getting fat refunds. Then we need to change our withholding so we can have that money during the year instead of waiting 'til the end. I kept my withholding the same when we got married so we wouldn't get a nasty tax surprise -- but since I also became eligible to participate in my firm's 401k plan over the summer and am putting in 10%, I ought to be able to claim my actual status of Married & 1 and not get clobbered for it. Taxes. I spit on taxes. Hey, did you notice that the same letters spell the word Texas? Just one little switch. Weird.

After tax time, it was only 3:20 but the husband and I were a little hungry and stopped off at this cool little sports bar not far from there. We each had a tall beer -- a Sierra Nevada for me, a Heineken for him -- and then had a Caesar salad and small pizza with pepperoni, mushroom, sausage and fresh tomatoes. It was KILLER! There I go talking about food again. I don't care. It was so good, I think we'll end up heating up the last 3 pieces later tonight. It was really good. We split a third tall beer, then stopped off on the way home to do some grocery shopping. And bought more beer. I've had one so far; I've got another in the freezer getting extra cold. In the mean time, I'm catching up on my Tivo and not doing much else. A perfectly good Tuesday.

Our friend Missy stopped by last night. We haven't seen her in months and will probably be seeing her a lot less once she moves to So. Cal. for good. We talked a lot about Jeff. She's doing pretty well, but she's still pretty fragile. It's hard to see. Still, she's holding her own and she's doing well. Luckily she's got a very tight family and lots of friends. Hopefully we'll get to see her again while she's still here. And it'll give us an excuse to go down there and see them.

Anyway, not much going on -- just workin' and trying to keep our heads above water. Looking forward to that tax refund and to finally settling that insurance BS. It'll be a while longer before we can do that. Sounds like 6 months ain't a thing when it comes to getting medical records and crap like that. Oh, well.

Our 2nd wedding anniversary is this month -- we probably won't even get to go anywhere to celebrate. I'm going to try to plan at least SOMETHING. I don't know what yet. It sounds like we're not going to be able to go out of town, so maybe we'll have to go someplace extra-swank for dinner. That'd work. I need to get on that!

Anyway, I'm babbling -- my cue to exit. Ciao!

Peachy: We might just have to do that! And, thanks! We haven't actually filed our taxes yet -- we just took all our paperwork to the tax guy and met with him for a few minutes. Once the taxes are actually done, we'll go sign 'em and get 'em filed. No big deal -- they're not far away!

Oh I see. I sit there and watch my dad enter the information. It's cool that you can drop them off and come back when they're finished.
