Just Curious
How does the sum of $756,900 compensate a person for being wrongfully imprisoned for 21 years?
Apparently, in this state, $100 a day is considered fair compensation for every day spent behind bars because someone else fucked up. I think a million dollars a year, if you could possibly assign a dollar value to such a thing, would be more appropriate.
Back in 1983, this poor guy was watching his girlfriend's 1 and 2-year old kids and apparently the 2-year old took a header off the couch when the guy went into the next room briefly. It just so happened the kid was a bleeder, inside and out, and this fall was enough to kill him. Although the police report and treating physician were unable to say beyond a reasonable doubt or even to a reasonable degree of medical certainty that the child had been abused, six doctors (prosecution "experts," I'm sure) testified at the trial there was no way a fall that short could have killed the kid.
The girlfriend, the mother of the child in question, believed her boyfriend. She knew her son had some medical problems. No matter -- he was convicted of second degree murder and given a term of 15 years to life. Imagine how THAT must feel knowing you didn't do it.
The quotes by the nimrods on the board who granted the guy this money made them sound like English was their second language -- and like they had no fucking clue on the concept of fair. One of them said "I think we all agree this is a fair settlement." Sure, fuckhead, how 'bout you trade places with me so I can get a do-over on my 30s and 40s? You can even have the 750 grand.
He's got a lawsuit pending against the county that put him in prison. I hope he knocks 'em the fuck out!

I hope he wins that case. Thats awful!
Yeah a hundred a day sounds fair... if perhaps I made you live in a scummy aparment... but NOT in prison.
What the fuck, man?!?
Have these people SEEN a prison?
I have. I was married to an inmate.
There is no dollar amout you can put on that.
None.
Twats. (oops... sorry ; )
Ariel: Agreed!
Awna: That's what I think. Most prisons are not Camp Cupcake!
I heard an interview with the prosecutor and it sounded a lot like the guy was actually guilty. The most telling piece of evidence being the fact that the kid is a bleeder, yet there was no blood near or on the glass that supposedly caused the 1-2 inch lacerations on the back of his neck.
Hmm . . . maybe I need to do some more reading on that. I haven't seen anything like that in anything I've read!
