Perspective
I found out this morning that a good friend of the husband's and mine was killed in an accident this weekend. He was one of the sweetest, funniest, most real people we've ever met and we are in shock. We are devastated -- for ourselves, for his girlfriend, for his family and for everyone else who was lucky enough to know him. He was only 29. He really had everything going for him, every reason to live, and things seemed to be going great. It's a real jolt for us, a reminder that tomorrow is not promised and that getting together with friends and family and keeping in touch is not something to be put off for another time.
We will miss you, Jeff. We love you and are beside ourselves with grief. People like you make me really hope there is something beyond this life -- and that we will see each other again someday.
I can't believe I just wrote that. I can't believe I had to write that. I keep hoping the phone will ring and someone will tell me there's been a terrible mistake.
But I know that's not going to happen.
