What's going on?
It is 64 degrees right now. I am wearing a sweater over my sleeveless top! Not a Cliff Huxtable pullover, just a little button-up sweater that I usually need because it's about 40 degrees in my office. But now I need it outside! All I hear is Lewis Black over and over again: "Giant frogs, giant frogs . . . "
Don't get me wrong: I'm not anxious for the 105 degree weather we are usually having by now, but it is 64 degrees today, and over the next few days they expect it to get upwards of 95. We are just not used to 30 degree temperature changes over the course of a few days! Usually we go from 40s/50s in the winter, to 60s/70s/80s in what little spring we have, then straight to 90/100. But here it is, end of June, heading toward JULY, and it's 64 degrees. In California. What? Is the end near?
Speaking of the end being near, what's with all the earthquakes? I'm already irritated over that Bay Bridge thing. They're planning to hike the tolls on all Bay Area bridges another dollar at the beginning of 2007, meaning the tolls have QUADRUPLED in the last 8 years or so. This is supposed to pay for the 3.6 BILLION dollars in cost OVERRUNS for the bridge they are building in S.F.
1) Why did it take 15 years after the last "big one" to see signs of a new bridge going up?
2) If they expect another catastrophic earthquake w/in 20 years of the Loma Prieta (1989) earthquake, WHY is the estimated finish date for the new bridge 2012, TWENTY THREE YEARS after the 1989 quake? Uhh.....
3) How the hell does one so grossly underestimate the cost of building something? I don't give a shit if the cost of concrete and steel has gone up. You're the State of California and you're buying it in bulk. Why are you so bad with money?
4) Why does it now take 23 years to build a bridge? I mean, really. Why does it take a full generation to get any goddamned thing done anymore?
I can't even continue with this. It just irritates me.
And, speaking of irritating, what's with all these pit bulls and pit bull mixes eating people left and right? I feel another numbered list coming on.
1) WHY are people who apparently don't know how to handle dogs even bothering with pit bulls?
2) What kind of idiot has pit bulls around kids?
3) Are the dogs all freaking out because they sense another big earthquake is coming? Is the end near?
Deja vu.
So yeah, some pit bulls are probably great. When I was a kid we had neighbors who had them and we thought of them as pets -- but they also would RUN UP THE SIDE OF A TREE and hang from the branches with their JAWS. They would hang, swing, and hold on to those MF'ing branches until they BROKE OFF. Now, as a kid, I found that amazing. As an adult, I find that frightening.
If you have a pit bull, even the gentlest, kindest, most loving pitbull in the world, don't write me in its defense. I don't give a shit.
PEOPLE WITH KIDS SHOULD NOT HAVE DOGS LIKE THAT.
Like this woman whose 12-year old son was killed by their dogs. That's right, another list:
1) If you know the dogs have a propensity for aggressive, violent behavior, don't have them in the MF'ing house.
2) If you need to go run an errand, don't leave your kid alone with the dogs -- I don't care if the kid didn't feel like going, you are the parent, and it's up to you to make the right choice.
3) If you are dumb enough to leave your kid alone w/the dogs, and someone needs to be barricaded in the basement, it should be the DOGS, not the KID, in the basement. WTF?!
4) If you KNOW, as you stated, that your son was not likely to stay in the basement, and you put him there anyway knowing what you were potentially subjecting him to, you are a fucking retard. Please do not have any more children.
I am glad they are prosecuting that woman. I don't want to hear any crap about how she's suffered enough by losing her son. Her son is the one that suffered when he was mauled by the so-called family pets and then bled to death. She does not get my sympathy. She made a host of not just poor, but inconceivable, inexcusable decisions, and her son is dead because of it. This was entirely preventable, and she is responsible. End of story. If you don't agree, I don't care.
Allllllllllllllllrighty, then. I'm not even in a bad mood today. But maybe the lack of sun is having an effect.
To sum up, I hate stupid shit and stupid people. If you are either one of these things, stay the hell away from me! Thank you, and have a nice day.

I'm usually a little touchy on dog subjects, just because many people are stupid, and typically blame dogs for people-problems. But seriously, if you have to BARRICADE anyone from anything in your HOME, then you shouldn't have it in your home, period. I'm with you.
Yup, I am definitely convinced the end is near.
And on a related topic, I am sick and tired of people blaming anything and anyone for their poor parenting skills. Like you said, they are the parent...the adult. ACT LIKE IT!!!
I hate stupid people, too.
BG: You're right, and I'm not even blaming the dogs -- all the dumbass mother had to say in her defense, if you can call it that, is that one of the dogs was in heat and the other one was very aggressive/territorial/protective over her, and she thought maybe the kid walked in on the dogs while they were mating. If I were the prosecutor in this case, I think I'd use that as my opening statement. F!
E: I agree those little ankle-biters are probably much more manageable -- and they can even sit on your lap!
Funny you mentioned the Big Dig. That was still underway when the husband and I were in Boston in 2003 . . . a testament to the fact that people will put up with bullshit indefinitely.
MM: Word!
hehehe... hehehe... this post cracked me the fuck up. and yeah. i'm with you on the parenting thing. and the pit bull thing... and well, yeah...
Grrrace: I was a little full of piss & vinegar when I wrote that! I meant all of it, though. Maybe I should change my blog title to Fucking Surrounded by Stupid People (!).
