Jamie Foxx Deserved that Oscar!
Jason and I finally saw "Ray" last night and, though it was a little long at just over 2.5 hours, it was great! What an interesting life Ray Charles apparently had. I never even knew that the song "Night Time is the Right Time" was his . . . of course, the first time I ever heard it was on the Cosby Show when the family lip synched to it on an episode. Turns out I like his music! The best compliment I can give Jamie Foxx is that I completely forgot it was him playing Ray Charles. He nailed that part, from the voice, to the look, to the walk, to the mannerisms . . . very good, I thought. It's unfortunate that Ray Charles was a cheating bastard and a junkie. I found it kind of disturbing that I wanted to overlook those things when considering him as a person, but certainly he's not alone in giving in to the temptations of the life of a traveling musician. I guess he beat the heroin habit; don't know about the infidelity. I was stunned that his wife stood by him all that time. I thought his biggest accomplishment was taking a stand on performing in segregated venues. Amazing that it took Georgia 20 years to come around and right the wrong they did to him over it! Good good good good movie. I give it two snaps up!
